Ohio Casino Control Commission clarifies credit card funding rule proposal

9 July 2026
The Ohio Casino Control Commission has clarified that a recent communication regarding a proposed ban on using credit cards to fund sports betting accounts does not represent a new rule proposal.

In an email sent to sports gaming stakeholders, the Commission said a message distributed on July 8 referred to the same proposed amendment to Ohio Administrative Code 3775-16-03 (Sports Gaming Accounts) that was originally released for public comment in May.

The Commission noted that the proposed amendment, which would remove credit cards as a permissible funding method for sports gaming accounts, was first circulated for public comment on May 6, with the comment period closing on May 15. The proposal was also considered during the Commission's June 17 meeting.

According to the Commission, the rule package has now been filed with Ohio's Common Sense Initiative Office as part of the state's rulemaking process. The filing includes the proposed rule language, summaries and a Business Impact Analysis.

The Commission encouraged stakeholders with questions or those seeking additional information before submitting comments to contact their Commission representatives
