October 13th, 2006 - The President is a Putz... In a mad dash to salvage a few percentage points for himself in the polls, Bush put his "X" on a Port Security Bill riddled with holes and padded with self-serving special interests. Bush is so desperate to look good at any cost --- and so headstrong about National Security at any consequence --- that he would have signed this Port Bill if it brought back The Prohibition Era... Holy crap! It did bring back prohibition! Maybe he was napping during high school history class when they discussed how prohibition failed miserably before. Maybe he didn't know Frist --- arguable the most corrupt Senator currently in office --- stuck an irrelevant rider on this bill to fulfill his obligations to campaign contributor Harrah's. Maybe Bush simply could have read the bill (or have his wife read it to him and explain the big words)? Whatever his reasoning, President Putz signed it into law today in a grotesque display of special interest, underhanded, American politics. As young men and women die in the middle east... As North Korea threatens the west coast of the United States and our allies in Japan and South Korea... As men, women, and children go hungry on our streets... As sexual predators pray on our children over the web... Congress has their priorities set on an online gambling ban! No matter that 85% of Americans oppose a ban on web based gaming. No matter that the only way a ban could pass was as a rider to an irrelevant bill without the privilege of any debate. No matter it was signed into law without even being read. They just did it... and we all know why. If this all sounds ridiculous, that's because it is ridiculous. I never thought that --- as an American --- I would live in fear of my own government... but I do. Letting these men and women we call Congressmen run our country is like handing a loaded gun to a monkey. Will sleep better tonight knowing that my elected officials ignore the will of the people in order to get rich? Will sleep better knowing that the world is a safer place now that I don't have the right to play a $10 sit & go at Party Poker? An online gambling ban... in the land of the free. Your tax dollars at work. |
